NeoGuides / Listen Now / Nat Geo Walks the Walk

It's all very well having itchy feet, but what if you also have a workload that won't let you leave the desk? National Geographic has a series of travel podcasts that can whisk you away at the click of a mouse. The "Walks of a Lifetime" series is an audio exploration of urban destinations, around the globe.

Destinations include Amsterdam, Rome, Montreal, Vienna, Santa Fe and Chicago. Each 20-30 minute podcast features NGTraveler Magazine's genial Rudy Maxa in situ, walking through significant parts of the city and talking about his surrounds. As you'd probably expect from Nat Geo, the narration is fact-heavy, but Maxa does a good job of bringing it to life. The pieces do includes some basic travel tips, but mostly they're about giving a feel for the city and explaining its appeal to travellers.

The money spent on putting Maxa on the street rather than in a studio makes all the difference - listening to him talk about Venice with the sloshing of water at a vaporetto stop in the background is the next best thing to being there. To hear more, click here.
