NeoGuides / Idle Archive: Autumn '08 / Sleevage

If you enjoyed Nick Hornby's High Fidelity but felt it could have done with more music trivia, Sleevage is a blog for you. It's all about music cover art, ranging from LP originals to new releases.

It's still getting up and running, but already there are details on about 150 covers. The entries range from brief listings of the vital information (who created the artwork, when it was released and on which label) to mini-essays.

One contributor describes the attraction this way, "not only do I get to explore music genres and bands I'd normally ignore (or even avoid) but I also learn about new artists, photographers, designers and other artistic people along the way".

Like any fan-driven blog, it's prone to misspellings and the odd rant, but there's enough obscure knowledge and surprising insights there (including the story of the 'banned' version of The Rolling Stones' Some Girls) to make it an appealing destination for idlers with an interest in popular music.
