There's no trick in the name. It really is a wall and you'll find it in the wilderness between Hobart and Queenstown. What a wall.

Greg Hunter has embarked on a huge project: when finished it will be three metres high, 50 metres long and double-sided, made of panels that he has carved from precious Huon pine, telling the story of the island's human history.

It's not obvious why an celebrated artisan with a studio outside of Hobart would move here, in the middle of nowhere. Even if it is a rather beautiful piece of nowhere. Hunter's not telling, but perhaps he simply wanted space for his epic work.

It will take years to complete but you're welcome to see it in progress. If you're lucky, you'll catch the man himself at work. Don't interrupt him. You can see how much he has left to do.

It's worth the detour to see the single-minded effort of an artisan like this. Immerse yourself in the rare and beautiful presence of such an expanse of the fragrant wood. In winter you can warm yourself by the roaring fire.
