Stop in here and you'll soon find yourself join the foodie locals in giving thanks that Ian Cunliffe chose Bicheno for his sea change.

Formerly chef at Daniel Alps in the Tamar Valley, Cunliffe is now the proud owner of this beachie bakery. Don't be put off by his shop's urban strip exterior, hose-out interior and blatantly beachy decor - that's what the sandy, salty, sunburnt holiday folk who crowd the area in summer except it to look like.

Keep moving past the white square tin loaves and sausage rolls; the sourdoughs are your goal today. Choose from white, light rye or euro-treacly dark rye. They'll have bread-lovers swooning and planning a whole meal around this chewy, flavourful bread. It's not hard: all you need is a dozen local Angasi oysters, some buttered slices of the light rye and a crisp local pinot gris to send you to heaven at the end of a day on the beach.

Leave room for the fairy cakes with passionfruit icing. Superb.
