Tucked in the middle of a verdant valley, up a quintessential country lane, is the home of Pyengana Cheese. It's a suitably rustic building with a small cafe looking out onto the rolling fields (those cows dotted about may well be the very ones that made the milk that made the cheese you're tucking into as you gaze).

If you're haven't yet explored this icon of Aussie cheese-making, you can sample versions of its famed cloth-bound cheddar, from bland and chewy at 10-days-old to lovingly aged and bitey.

The small menu of simple soups and cafe dishes makes this a good place to stop if you're tiring of the windy, hilly roads. It's a tranquil, atmospheric place to recharge.
