Whiskey aficionados should climb up the steep hill here to taste one of Tasmania's newest tipples.

Lovers of Laphroaig and the earthy tones of peat-smoked single-malt whiskeys, will be interested in comparing a taste or two of the local brown produce. (Though as it happens most of the peat in Tasmania is in protected wilderness areas, so the grain is smoked in Scotland but distilled here.) You can tour the factory if you wish to see the process in detail.

The cafe cater for non-drinkers too, offering a decent cup of coffee, scones with jam and cream and light lunches. Its view is quintessentially Burnie: industrial on one side, rolling rural hills on the other.
